Maintenance of yourHardwood Floors and Decks
The timber that makes up your Zambezi Floor is of exceptional density, and therefore far more resistant to damage than other solid wood floors. In addition, if the surface does eventually get worn after many years of use it can simply be sanded down and refinished as the floor starts out 20mm thick and if carefully sanded will not lose more than a millimetre per sanding. Properly looked after a solid wood Zambezi Teak floor will last hundreds of years.
However, there are actions you can take to preserve the finishing coat used to seal your floor.
Placing a doormat either side of an entrance door will help prevent grit being carried in which can damage the surface coat badly. Sweep or hoover as often as necessary to remove loose dirt and dust.
The finishing coat, as with any finishing coat, can deteriorate. The main causes of deterioration are exposure to strong light (especially sunlight); oxidation and physical abuse with rough or excessively heavy objects. There are both passive and active measures that can be taken to protect your fine Zambezi Floor:
Passive measures. Try to avoid direct, harsh sunlight or very powerful lights on the floor. Cover with a rug or draw curtains when the room is not in use. Use protective pads under furniture.
Active measures. Application of a good floor wax polish. This will help prevent objects damaging the finish and will give it a beautiful sheen that helps bring out the depth and colour of the wood.
Please do not use ammonia, chlorine bleach or abrasive cleaners to clean stains or spills. A little dish washer in warm water should do the job! |
